The School of Natural Sciences within Unitec teaches horticulture at Cerificate, Diploma and Degree levels. Our teaching is supported by research in a range of areas and our facilities include a teaching herbarium with a focus on lichens.

Woodleigh is 3 acres of cottage and plantsman gardens with large established trees and lawns, all divided into separate rooms. It has been likened to a botanical garden on a small scale. The garden has been part of the Abc open Garden Scheme for 3 years.
The Australian National Botanic Gardens is the national collection of living Australian plants, growing about 6000 species, or about one third of the Australian flora. It has an associated herbarium collection and photograph collection. Opened in 1970, it is 40 ha in area.
Rhododendrons & Azaleas, Camelias, cold climate shrubs and trees plus many cold climate peennials some hard to find species. Planted under tall Eucalyptus in a 5 acre bushland setting. Picnic tables & refreshments available.
